British Values
Malvern Parish Primary School actively promotes British Values, ensuring our young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance, and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law. Pupils recognise that these values are precious and far from universal across the world.
It is our intent to instil these crucial values to ensure pupils demonstrate they have the cultural capital to become successful global citizens.
At Malvern Parish we uphold British Values through our spiritual, moral, social and cultural education which permeates through the school’s curriculum, supporting the development of the whole child. Through our progressive and structured curriculum for PSHE, each of the British Values are reinforced and children’s knowledge built upon in an age appropriate way. This progression ladder details the aspects of British Values taught through weekly PSHE lessons ensuring that children will develop:
- An understanding of how citizens can influence decision-making through the democratic process
- An understanding that the freedom to hold other faiths and beliefs is protected in law
- An acceptance that people having different faiths and beliefs to oneself (or having none) should be accepted and tolerated, and should not be the cause of discriminatory behaviour
- An understanding of the importance or identifying and combating discrimination
We recognise that the development of British Values works hand in hand with our vison and values and attitudes are promoted by all staff and provide a model of behaviour for our pupils.
