First, we looked at how Tanzanian people create batik and what sorts of patterns they use. Then we had a go at designing four different simple patterns...
...and then we drew our chosen pattern onto cotton fabric before applying a flour and water mixture. When we dye the fabric, this mix will resist the dye and our pattern should stand out from the colourful dyed parts.
Update: we’ve now dyed our art work, let it dry and we’ve picked off the floury mixture. It semi-worked! The dye seems to have leaked under the flour in some places but the patterns we’ve produced are quite nice! 🙂
