Spring 2

We have lots of exciting things to explore in Year 3 during the second half of the Spring term!

English

✨ Writing Kennings Poems

This term, children are learning how to write kennings poems. Kennings are fun, descriptive phrases made by joining two words together to create vivid imagery.
For example, instead of saying “the sea”, children might write “wave-dancer” or “ship-cradler”.

Through this unit, pupils will:

  • Explore descriptive language and figurative writing

  • Build imaginative vocabulary

  • Perform and share their poems with confidence

🧭 Ernest Shackleton

Year 3 are also learning about the famous Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton. Children will discover his incredible journey, the challenges he faced in the frozen wilderness, and the leadership skills that helped his crew survive.

We will:

  • Learn key facts from non-fiction texts

  • Develop understanding of non- chronological reports

  • Make links between events and feelings to help letter writing
